Actionscript is the programming language embedded into Flash MX. The language is
closely related to JavaScript. However, additional functions are provided which only
make sense within the context of Flash MX programming.
Actionscript is essential if you want your flash animations to do more than bounce
around the screen and morph. Actionscript provides easy-to-use, but very sophisticated,
client-server communication capabilities. Flash MX Actionscript offers alternatives to
Cookies, as well as database queries, and the ability to interact with XML. If you want
to undertake Flash – XML development, learning Actionscript is the only way to go.
Flash MX provides a very powerful Actionscript developer environment. However, most
Actionscript developers need some training learning to use it, which this course provides.
Actionscript is an object-oriented programming environment, so students will learn to access
the components and symbols in Flash MX.
By the end of this course the students will understand Actionscript, and be able to create
embed Actionscript into Flash MX components. They will be able to use Actionscript in Flash MX
to query servers to process their replies. Students will learn how to drive animations with Actionscript,
including making those animations do different things in response to user input. The course will also teach
students to use Actionscript to process forms, as well as use the alternatives to Cookies it offers.
