XML Training: Initially intended as a replacement for HTML, XML (eXtensible Mark-up Language) is a solution which has far outstripped its initial expectations. A superb data interchange format, XML has become the lingua franca of e-commerce and digital communication.

The power of XML lies in the fact it allows you to create your own tags, and is completely application-independent. This permits designers to describe new types of data and process complex data structures. It allows the designer to pre-format documents for processing by other applications such as databases. It means that different applications can read the same files and process them in different ways.

The main programming interface to XML is the Docment Object Model, or DOM. DOM provides a common programming interface for all languages and applications. XSL is used to process and display XML documents, while XQL is used to query them. All these technologies are taught in this course.

By the end of this course the students will understand XML, and be able to create XML documents and applications. They will be able to use XQL with XSL to query and process these documents. They will understand the major XML dialects and be able to create their own. They receive training in how to use the DOM API, enabling them to access and program XML data in the language or application of their choice.
